DIY Farmhouse Laundry Room—In One Day!
Hey Modern Farmhouse Girl!
What an awesome weekend! These past few days have been a whirlwind, but essentially consisted of my Uncle Frank, my Aunt Colleen and my Dad visiting and working hard on my behalf in the condo—while I ran to Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, Tractor Supply and Aubuchon (and back again) for various supplies, as well as to the local deli counter for fuel (and whoopie pies for all).
Our main project this weekend was insulating my condo's boiler room closet and ripping out flooring and sheetrock in the adjacent corner of my living room—these both had water damage from The Great Boiler Breakdown of 2018 (a story for another blog post). My Aunt Colleen also fixed my unstable back porch with an ingenious support stone, my Uncle Frank patched sagging sheetrock taping on my ceiling around the dining room light fixture (and singlehandedly put in new flooring and new mold-resistant sheetrock in the living room corner), and Dad did a lot of painting! He painted shelving in my bathroom and also my entire laundry room for me! I have the best family!
If you know me, you know I tend to wax ..not poetically...but more or less coherently (I hope!) on my love for Lowe's HGTV Sherwin Williams Paint Collections, of which the Quiet Comfort Collection is my favorite. I have painted every room in my condo (now that the laundry room is done) in different colors from the collection, and I love them all. For the laundry room, I chose a color called "grayish" and it really is lovely—definitively gray, but with lavender undertones.
HOT TIP: If you're choosing gray paint, you definitely want to try some test samples before you commit to a full wall...or room. Gray is a really tough color to judge by a paint chip. Lots of grays have different undertones (I'm finding) like blue! Or lavender!
So: my laundry room went from boring white with no style to cool gray with farmhouse flair in one day. All it took was paint (two quarts) and a few accessories from a favorite store of mine—Michaels! Also fellow Michaels lovers take note--they have some AMAZING goodies for sale right now. Pictures to follow!
Oh, and here is a slideshow you can click through with TONS of pieces I loved at Michaels! Are you hopping in your car yet?! Notably: chalk globes, gorgeous faux flowers, pumpkin spice and everything nice and endless modern farmhouse decor.
I think all I need is a buffalo-check cover for my ironing board (does somebody make those?!) and then it's really done!
